The Morning Mark – Social Media Video First Steps

This Week: Social Media Video First Steps

STEP ONE

Practice for a few days.

Film yourself with your phone talking for 20 seconds about anything, just for practice. 20 second clips can work anywhere you want to place a video in the future. (Don’t forget to delete all but the final. They use a lot of space on your device.)

STEP TWO

Make a plan.

What are you using video for? When you start, it can be easier to set just one goal. We recommend committing to post a video once every other week on social media.

Again, 20 second clips are very versatile, since each platform has their own restrictions for video length for organic social posts and ads. 20 second works everywhere.

Next, think about what you’re going to talk about. When in doubt, always choose a topic that offers the customer something of real value and emphasizes your unique selling point of your business. It’s also helpful to plan and film several topics at once.

For example: if I own an auto repair shop, I might do a series of videos on everyday warning signs that tell you your car may be in need of repair. With this, I’m offering real value to my customer and showing my expertise in auto repair.

STEP THREE

Shoot! No editing needed.

When you first start filming, try to film a clip that’s complete “in and of” itself. (In other words, film a clip that will need no editing.) As you improve, you can start adding touches like a title at the start, your company logo and website at the end or adding music. Usually paying attention to the opening screen (making sure you’re ready when you start filming), and then either introducing yourself at the beginning or mentioning your company name at the end will suffice.

STEP FOUR

Post your videos on social media.

Simply click on “Upload Video” instead of “Upload Photo” when posting. When advertising, choose “Video Views” as your goal.

Takeaway: Look at your analytics and start noticing how your engagements are skyrocketing. Video captures people’s attention like no other type of post. It helps builds trust, and ultimately, the relationship that you are seeking with your target audience.
